Reports on Malone firing indicate part of the reason was his cool relationship with GM Calvin Booth. Part, maybe most, of the reason the Kings fired Malone was his relationship with GM Pete D'Alessandro. The difference is the Nuggets axed the GM along with Malone.

Can the Kings hold onto the 9th spot to get a home Play-In game? Kings final 3 games, all at home: Nuggets, Clippers, Suns. Mavericks final 3: home vs. Lakers, home vs. Raptors, at Memphis. The Kings hold the tie-breaker with Dallas. Suns still have a chance, too. Slim chance.

I feel kinda silly, given how the Kings have played lately, talking Playoffs, but if the Mavs lose to the Clips tonight, Kings & Mavs will be tied for 9th. That would mean a Play-In home game for the Kings...if they hold onto 9th. Of course, the Kings next game is in Cleveland.
