I have a week remaining as Metro's pandemic editor, and it has taken every bit of strength during this run not to correct everyone every time it's reported that someone has tested positive for Covid-19. A person tests positive for the virus, and then may end up getting Covid-19.

It should not have caught officers by surprise. This mandate was announced in July.

After having now edited both the NY to shutdown and NY fully reopens stories, I can say that one was much more fun to do than the other.

For the first time since last summer, no NYC ZIP code has a positive test rate above 3 percent, according to the latest update. No ZIP code had more then 55 new cases in the latest seven-day period. Every borough is under 2 percent.

Only 2 NYC ZIP codes have a positive test rate above 3 percent in the latest stats update. Highest is 3.17. It's likely that every ZIP code will be under 3 by the end of the weekend. Every borough is under 2 percent.

In the last several months, several major news orgs — including the LA Times, Washington Post, Reuters, ABC/CBS news — hired new leaders. None were Latino. Newsroom leaders should know there's mounting frustration among Latino journos about the lack of representation.

No NYC ZIP code registered a positive test rate above 5 percent in the latest stats update. Two are above 4 (Queens Village ZIP code is highest at 4.11). All but 16 ZIP codes are under 3. No ZIP code recorded more than 90 cases in a 7-day period.
