350.org

Founded in 2008 by a group of college friends in the United States, along with author Bill McKibben—who penned one of the first accessible books on global warming—350.org aims to create a worldwide climate movement. The name "350" refers to the safe level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, measured at 350 parts per million. The organization kicked off its efforts with global action days that united activists and groups globally. Notable events include the International Day of Climate Action in 2009, the Global Work Party in 2010, and Moving Planet in 2011. 350.org quickly evolved into a worldwide coalition of organizers, community members, and everyday individuals advocating for a future free from fossil fuels. Currently, 350.org runs grassroots campaigns across the planet, tackling issues such as opposing coal plants and large pipelines while promoting renewable energy and cutting off financial support for fossil fuels. Our initiatives harness the power of people to challenge the fossil fuel industry's influence and operations. Some of our recent achievements include campaigns against the Keystone XL and Dakota Access pipelines in the U.S., halting fracking in numerous cities across Brazil and Argentina, encouraging over 1,000 universities, foundations, cities, and churches to divest more than $12 trillion from fossil fuels, and participating in significant grassroots events like the People's Climate March and Global Climate Strike.
