I’d been looking for an excuse to go to IKEA. Not that I need an excuse. BUT…if I did, I told myself yesterday that I needed that rug from their recent Stockholm 2025 Collection. And yes, some other tiny-yet-superb things for the cabin, now that we’re about to start sleeping there (I mean, I cannot even believe it 🧺). As of today: Our in-progress cabin bedroom. The bedside lamps are IKEA’s Nymåne style, found on eBay gently used (a deal:).

When I opened the package, a lovely abstract painting on some old newsprint paper accompanied her book Big Thrift Energy (the art was by her, drafted on salvaged pages from a vintage book…I still have it:). I never really know how to wear tops. As you’ve probably noticed, I mostly only own/wear long-sleeved t-shirts and menswear striped shirts, but one of you asked me to research the subject of spring tops a few months ago. And then a few other people recently asked me again. And, so…. TOPS. It’s not just me. They are confusing!Which is ironic since they should be easy. Something goes on the bottom, and then you’ve got something on the top. No biggie, right? If it were only that simple.

When I recently started compiling all the latest snapshots of the tiny house we’ve been building for today’s story, I got a little choked up. I wasn’t expecting it. Swiping through millions of progress images—most of them crummy construction shots or teetering piles of building materials awaiting installation (also ME in a stress ball in the corner out of frame)—something interesting emerged.
