ACI Africa
Founded in 2019, ACI Africa is dedicated to providing free, real-time news related to the Catholic Church across Africa. We focus on the messages of the Holy Father and events from the Holy See, making this information accessible to anyone with internet access. Our mission is to support Catholic dioceses, parishes, and websites by offering complimentary news content, aiming to raise awareness of the universal Church's activities and to promote Catholic thought and culture among all Catholics. The origins of ACI Africa trace back to its sister organization, ACI Prensa, established in Lima, Peru, in 1980 by Fr. Adalbert Marie Mohm (†1986). As a German missionary, Fr. Mohm aimed to deliver a consistent stream of Catholic news to the secular media, enhancing the public's awareness of the Church's presence and mission. Today, ACI Prensa (www.aciprensa.com) stands as the largest and most frequented online source for Catholic news in Spanish and Portuguese. ACI Africa was officially launched on August 17, 2019, as a continental Catholic news agency serving the African Church. With its headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, this media apostolate aims to share Africa's stories by covering Catholic events throughout the continent. As statistics indicate a substantial growth in the Catholic population in Africa, the agency seeks to highlight the Church's activities and its pivotal role in the continent. Over time, we hope to foster a better understanding of Africa, countering the negative portrayals often seen in media coverage.
