ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union)
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is a nonprofit organization established in 1920 with the mission to protect and uphold the individual rights and freedoms guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and laws. As of July 2018, the ACLU has more than 1.8 million members and an annual budget exceeding $300 million. With affiliates located in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico, the ACLU engages in legal action and advocacy to defend civil liberties. They offer legal help in situations where individual rights may be threatened, which can include direct legal representation or the preparation of amicus curiae briefs to support ongoing cases handled by other law firms.
