AFC News
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) serves as the main authority for soccer in Asia and Australia. It consists of 47 member nations, primarily found in Asia and Australia. However, it does not include transcontinental countries that are part of both Europe and Asia—such as Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Turkey—since these countries are affiliated with UEFA instead. Additionally, three nations on Asia's western edge—Cyprus, Armenia, and Israel—are also members of UEFA. Australia, which was previously part of the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC), became a part of the AFC in 2006. The AFC also includes Guam, a U.S. territory, and the Northern Mariana Islands, which is another U.S. Commonwealth. While Hong Kong and Macau are not independent nations, as they are Special Administrative Regions of China, they are also recognized as members of the AFC.
