Airwars

Airwars is a non-profit initiative focused on tracking and documenting military operations in conflict areas like Iraq, Syria, and Libya. Given that thirteen Coalition nations have conducted airstrikes in Syria during the fight against the so-called Islamic State, along with additional forces from Russia, Iran, Iraq, Israel, and the Assad regime, there is a significant need for reliable and independent evaluations of these actions. Based in London, Airwars collaborates with the Department of Media and Communications at Goldsmiths, University of London. The organization also has team members and volunteers located in various regions, including the Middle East, North Africa, Europe, and North America. As detailed in our Methodology, we not only monitor military activities but also strive to investigate and follow up on credible reports of civilian casualties. Our data includes information from the military reports of the US, its allies, and Russia, which we then verify against claims made by local monitoring groups, media, and social media regarding civilian deaths.
