Al-Fanar Media
Al-Fanar Media offers fair, precise, and impartial reporting on various aspects of academic life across the Arab region. Its mission is to shed light on important issues in Arab higher education and promote conversations among institutions, leaders, and other key players both locally and internationally. Al-Fanar Media acts as a forum for open and thoughtful dialogue. The publication is available in both English and Arabic, delivering new articles through a biweekly newsletter. Additionally, it aims to motivate journalists in the region to focus on education-related topics. Al-Fanar Media is committed to remaining unbiased and does not take sides on political or religious matters. The editorial team believes that freedom of expression is vital for civil society and that academic freedom is essential for the proper functioning of educational institutions. They independently choose the topics and stories they cover and never accept payment for publishing content. Funding for Al-Fanar Media comes from organizations such as the Ford Foundation, the Carnegie Corporation, the Open Society Foundations, and the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development. Previously, the U.N. Democracy Fund has also supported its initiatives. Established in 2013, Al-Fanar Media is a project of the Alexandria Trust, a nonprofit based in London that is committed to enhancing educational access and quality in the Arab world.
