In 1984, Thomson Newspapers acquired the Times-Recorder, and in 2000, Community Newspaper Holdings took over when Thomson opted to exit the newspaper industry.

Rucker Smith of Americus has been reelected to serve his 15th term on the Board of Governors of the 56,000-member State Bar of Georgia. Smith will continue to serve in the Southwestern Circuit seat on the board, representing Lee, Macon, Schley, Stewart, Sumter and Webster counties. He earned his law degree from Emory University School of Law and was admitted to the State Bar of Georgia in 1979.

More than 50 entries were on display in front of the SGTC cafeteria near South Georgia Tech Parkway and a large crowd attended. Admission was free and lunch was provided to participants and on-lookers.

    Published 1:01 pm Tuesday, June 17, 2025 Approximately 60 rising tenth, eleventh, twelfth grade and recent high school graduate students from 10 different counties completed the six-day, five-night South Georgia Technical College Summer Bridge STEM camp to learn more about the educational and career opportunities available in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) fields. SGTC and Chattahoochee Flint RESA partnered to host the event with grant funding.

    Published 10:37 am Tuesday, June 17, 2025 Representative Mike Cheokas and his wife Gaynor Cheokas held a meet and great reception for Congressman Buddy Carter on June 16. Carter is running for Senate. Guests were treated to a bar and beautiful view of Lake Collins. Carter highlighted his experience in politics. “I was a mayor. I was in the state legislature for 10 years, and now I’ve been in Congress for 11 years.” He plans to bring that knowledge and experience to the Senate.
