The Americus Times-Recorder is a daily publication based in Americus, Georgia. It is managed by South Georgia Media Group, which is part of Community Newspaper Holdings Inc. In 1984, Thomson Newspapers acquired the Times-Recorder, and in 2000, Community Newspaper Holdings took over when Thomson opted to exit the newspaper industry.

FLEX stands for Foundational Leadership and Entrepreneurial Experience. FLEX allows students who have a business or wish to start one an opportunity to gain business experience in a shark-tank style competition.

Students from Sumter County Primary School won first place at the Georgia Movie Academy, and were recognized by the Board for their achievement. They created a 3-minute video, and chose the topic myth busters. Employee Angela Laster received the 2025 Malcom Quillen Nutrition Hero Award. Margaret Goodin, director of school nutrition, praised Laster.

State law requires schools to be rated on a one-to-five-star scale. The factors that go into the calculation are school discipline, how safe and free of illicit substances the learning environment is, school wide attendance, and a survey. Five stars is the highest rating a school can achieve.
