Her work is informed by her own experiences of being born in Gujarat, India, then later growing up across Saudi Arabia, Ireland and the Middle East, before her family settled in Eastbourne.

Emma Critchley: Soundingsa-n member Emma Critchley’s solo exhibition takes us underwater, to explore the urgent and complex issue of deep sea mining. Combining filmmaking, choreography and public engagement, Critchley’s work highlights this looming ecological threat, prompting us to think about how we imagine and discuss the deep sea. Soundings includes a three-screen film which considers the nuanced debates around commercial deep sea mining of minerals.

What kind of a year has 2024 been for you? 2024 has been very busy! I have installed two of my murals, one in Spa Fields and one in St John’s Gardens, both in London, and I co-curated the show PARKED with Ishbel Mull at SPACE, London. PARKED first took place back in 2017 and was supposed to be an annual event but Covid and life got in the way. I was so thrilled that this year we got funding from a local business called Comptons, which enabled us to curate a second show.
