An ambulance worker responding to an emergency call suffered minor injuries when a car was driven at him. The ambulance was being dangerously followed by a car as it travelled at speed from Sutton in Ashfield to Newark under blue lights. The car tailgated the ambulance at very close range as it made its way eastbound along the A617. The car mirrored the ambulance’s speed and followed it as it overtook vehicles, with the car narrowly avoiding oncoming traffic.
Police launch appeal after knife-carrying cyclist robs man in Hucknall

A cyclist who robbed a man in Hucknall is being sought by police. The victim, a man in his 20s, was wearing headphones while walking down Orchard Street when he was approached by a man on a bike. The cyclist initially asked the man for the time, before showing a knife and demanding cash. The attacker lifted the hoody he was wearing to show he had a knife tucked into his waistband.

The former leader of the House of Commons, Sir Mark Spencer, is one of dozens of Conservative MPs to lose their seats in the General Election. Spencer gained 13,398 votes, down 2,465 on his 2019 tally; but with a much lower turnout, Labour’s Michelle Welsh received 18,841 votes – almost 3,000 more than the then-Labour candidate, Jerry Hague, achieved in the 2019 general election. Welsh becomes one of 211 new Labour MPs elected in a landslide victory for Keir Starmer.
Ashfield’s Youth Parliament member launches free school meals campaign

Charlie Simpson, the Ashfield representative on the UK Youth Parliament, has today (Monday) launched a campaign to reform the way free school meals are provided. In a video message, he said the campaign was the realisation of a promise in his election manifesto. He described the current system as “simply too unfair” and “outdated”, but said that he wasn’t calling for free school meals for every child, acknowledging that some estimates put the cost of that at £4 billion.
Police seize cannabis and growing equipment from Stanton Hill site

Nottinghamshire Police and Ashfield District Council are to seek a closure order for commercial premises in Stanton Hill which was being used as a cannabis farm. Police raided in the premises in High Street, Stanton Hill, on Thursday (4 July) after a tip off from local residents. They seized 80 cannabis plants from a number of rooms in the property as well as associated heating and growing equipment.

Lee Anderson, the former deputy chairman of the Conservative party, has held on to his Ashfield constituency, in his new Reform UK colours. Anderson topped the poll in the constituency, winning 17,062 votes ahead of Labour’s Rhea Keehn, on 11,553. The leader of Ashfield District Council, Jason Zadrozny, came third with 6,276 votes. The Conservatives Debbie Soloman polled just 3,271 votes – a disappointing result which mirrors a disastrous night for the Conservatives across the country.
Ashfield firefighters in early poppy appeal for remembrance display

Firefighters based at Ashfield fire station are planning early for this November’s season of remembrance. They are asking individuals and community groups to make poppies that they can attach to a net, which they will drape around the station, on Sutton Road in Kirkby in Ashfield. The firefighters are working with the Academy Transformation Trust Further Education College, in Sutton in Ashfield, to create what they hope will be an “amazing display”.
Police seek to trace two men after Sutton in Ashfield motorhome theft

A Sutton couple’s Chausson 640 motorhome has been stolen, just hours after they returned home from a road trip. Thieves broke a gate lock to the secure compound in Hamilton Road, Sutton in Ashfield, where the £58,000 motorhome was stored. The thieves then broke into the campervan and drove it away. Nottinghamshire Police have now released images of two men they wish to speak to about the theft, saying that the individuals in the images may have information that could assist their investigation.
