Old Kings Elementary School has a new principal: at its Tuesday business meeting the Flagler School Board approved the hiring of Jessica Fries, moving her up from her existing role as assistant principal at Buddy Taylor Middle School. Prior to being promoted to Principal of OKES, Fries has worked in Flagler Schools since 2019. Before that, she worked in the Volusia County School District in exceptional student education.

Brian Pirraglia, a 42-year-old resident of Palm Coast’s F Section, was indicted for first degree murder in connection to a fatal overdose from drugs he’s alleged to have sold the victim. According to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, Pirraglia laced the drugs with fentanyl, directly resulting in the victim’s death. The tragedy occurred on February 8th, 2022 at around 3:18 pm. FCSO deputies were called to a residence on Blasdell Court in Palm Coast’s B Section about a possible overdose death.

With the passing of the qualifying deadline on Friday at noon, Flagler County voters officially know who will appear on their ballots later this year in the primary and general elections. Five of the races that would’ve been on the ballot for all Flagler voters, the county’s constitutional officers, were decided on Friday when only one candidate filed for each race.

All five of Flagler County’s elected constitutional officers have won new four-year terms office, with none receiving an election opponent before the qualifying deadline on Friday at noon. Sheriff Rick Staly, Property Appraiser James Gardner, Clerk of Court Tom Bexley, Tax Collector-elect Shelly Edmonson, and Supervisor of Elections Kaiti Lenhart will all remain in office through 2028. Of these five candidates, four were incumbents.

With the passage of 12:00 pm on Friday, the qualifying period for candidates in Flagler County has concluded. The Supervisor of Elections Office immediately began sifting through paperwork and petition submissions when the deadline passed, working to determine who will and won’t appear on the ballot among candidates who filed to run in the 2024 elections. Meanwhile, the City of Palm Coast was able to finalize their candidate list.
