Police were called to the property, near the junction with Sandon Road, just before 4.30am today. A man’s body was found at the property, and officers are working to establish the circumstances of his death and the cause of the fire. WMP are supporting the man’s loved ones at this difficult time.

Hosted by CSFC’s T Level staff and students, the day included live music, a moment of reflection led by the college chaplain and afternoon tea.

A ‘dangerous and predatory sex offender’ has been jailed for ten years for sexually assaulting two teenage boys, following a British Transport Police (BTP) investigation. Damien Gloster, 40, and of no fixed address, was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court yesterday (7 May) to seven years in prison, extended by a further three years. Gloster was found guilty by a jury of two counts of sexual assault on a male, at Birmingham Crown Court on Wednesday 19 February 2025.

Stefania Kapati was arrested and charged by officers in connection with a robbery near Morrisons in Rubery on 29th April. Shortly before 4pm, a 95-year-old woman was pushed to the ground and her purse was stolen, leaving her with injuries requiring hospital treatment. Following enquiries by (WMP) officers from the Birmingham LPA Neighbourhood Crime Team, a woman in her 20s was arrested.

The RSPCA Young Photographer Awards has now opened for entries (Tuesday 6th May) and will close on 13th August. Last year, more than 4,000 children and young people with a passion for photography, animals and nature entered the competition. Now budding photographers aged 18 years and under are being asked to submit their photos capturing the animal kingdom on a camera or mobile device as the competition officially opens for entries for 2025.

The refurbished suite opening comes as the number of arrests across the West Midlands continues to climb with positive outcomes increasing and overall crime reducing. Before the site reopened officers had to use cells in Perry Barr, Stechford or other areas of the West Midlands. In 2022, just four custody facilities were open but West Midlands Police now have more up to date operational cells than ever before.

A consultation into proposals for a store at the junction of Pershore Road and Hazelwell Lane opened in November last year and were met with a mixed reaction from local residents. Many felt the development would be a threat to the award winning independent high street of the suburb. A ‘Down with the Clown’ protest was staged and an online petition garnered 1800 signatures. McDonald’s have now confirmed they will not be submitting a planning application for a store in Stirchley.
