Josh Snyder has been in the Baltimore community for 17 years working as executive director of Goucher College Hillel, where he has guided the next generation of Jewish students and served as an ambassador of Jewish life on campus. Snyder, a Philadelphia native, moved to Baltimore after graduating rabbinical school in 2008 and has been at Goucher ever since, organizing programs and bringing Jewish and non-Jewish students together. A Baltimore rabbi used a firearm to fight off two alleged assailants on the evening of May 24 after the rabbi said he was sucker punched in the face and knocked to the ground by two masked men who then attempted to steal his car. Rabbi Emanuel Goldfeiz, the leader of Beit Yaakov Sephardic Congregation in Pikesville, was in the parking lot of his home at the Park Towers West condominiums when the masked individuals approached him and abruptly punched him in the face, according to police.

Over 200 members of the Baltimore Jewish community came out to the Gordon Center for Performing Arts on the Rosenbloom Owings Mills campus on May 30 to celebrate the 12 years of service that Barak Hermann, CEO of the JCC of Greater Baltimore, has given to the organization and larger community. Kenneth “Kenny” Baum, the founder of the Knish Shop, and known locally for his decades of work in the deli business, died peacefully at his home surrounded by family on May 25. He was 96. Baum was a longtime Pikesville resident and member of Beth El Congregation, and he became a staple in the Baltimore food scene when he founded the Knish Shop in 1970 after spending time working in the catering business with his brother-in-law Leonard Schleider.
