Travel trade unions ASLEF and RMT have announced their workers will hold several strike days in November. Engineering staff will walk out on November 1st, followed by London Underground drivers and operators on November 7th and 12th. In all three cases, tube services are likely to be severely disrupted and subject to cancellation. This latest round of industrial action is part of the unions’ attempts to secure a new pay deal for Transport For London (TFL) workers.

The Campaign For Real Ale (CAMRA)’s flagship beer festival is returning in 2025 after a hiatus this year, and for the first time since 1983, it will take place in the West Midlands. The Great British Beer Festival (GBBF) will land at Birmingham NEC on August 5th next year, and run for five days. Visitors will be able to taste a huge range of beer, cider, and perry, along with plenty of food (there are always decent pies to be found at GBBF). Tickets are £9.50 and include a souvenir tasting glass.

After three years of fun and frolics in Glasgow, the Bartender’s Ball decamped to Edinburgh yesterday, for a night of celebration and award-awarding (does that make sense?). In addition to music from Al and the Bad Decisions, tasty BBQ and performances from the Enticing Ecdysiasts Burlesque, the results of the peer-nominated Edinburgh Bar Awards were announced, with venues and individuals from the Edinburgh community recognised for their excellence and contribution to the scene.

Food Standards Scotland (FFS) and the Food Standards Agency (FSA) have issued an alert concerning counterfeit bottles of Glen’s Vodka, testing of which has found some to contain a potentially deadly solvent. The 35cl bottles “were found to contain isopropyl alcohol, so they are unsafe.
