Count JuJu Johnson among the recruits impressed with the efficiency of the UCLA coaching staff and the organization of spring practices. The 2027 Long Beach (Calif.) Poly four-star athlete was back Tuesday at UCLA for the first time since landing an offer on a previous visit. “I thought the practice was competitive and no time wasted,” Johnson told Bruin Blitz.

For anyone who has followed the Nico Iamaleava saga since things started to go sour last week between the five-star quarterback and Tennessee, it’s been impossible to avoid a strong opinion in support of or against the situation. It ranges from labeling Iamaleava and his family greedy to some backlash (but not a lot) in the direction of Volunteers head coach Josh Heupel to the forever ongoing sky-is-falling argument about name, image and likeness money impacting college athletics.

Since then, unofficial visit after unofficial visit has followed to let him know he was a priority.

The Bruins, though, have not been waiting until then to get anyone and everyone who wants to stop by in the Wasserman Football Center. They had two visitors in the 2027 class — both four-star targets on defense — on campus to watch Monday morning’s practice.

UCLA secondary coach Demetrice Martin is bringing a fellow Pasadena native back home. Jamier Johnson, who spent the past two seasons at Indiana, announced Tuesday on social media that he is transferring to UCLA. The announcement comes after Johnson took a weekend official visit to campus and watched last Saturday’s practice. The Pasadena (Calif.) Muir product originally signed with Texas as a four-star cornerback who was ranked in the Rivals250 as part of the 2021 class.

For the first time since landing back in Westwood, secondary coach Demetrice Martin reflected on his return to UCLA’s coaching staff after Tuesday’s spring practice. Martin discussed being able to coach his son, Cole, the transfer-heavy group of defensive backs the Bruins brought in this offseason and the current landscape of college football. Logan Hirou’s relatively recent interest from UCLA is now getting more serious. The Rancho Santa Margarita (Calif.) Santa Margarita Catholic three-star safety stopped by Monday morning to watch spring practice at the Wasserman Football Center. A return to campus for an official visit from June 6-8 is already locked in, too. “I saw a lot of good things,” Hirou told Bruin Blitz. “I saw a lot of stuff that I play at my high school, which is good, and I think will translate if I come here to UCLA.

Four-star wide receiver Camden Capehart, a 2026 Mississippi State commit, has taken his share of campus visits like any highly-rated recruit in the offseason prior to the start of his posenior year. But Monday’s visit to UCLA was something the Winnsboro, Texas product had yet to experience. “The football facility is crazy and just — it’s an amazing campus overall and really it all stood out,” Capehart told Bruin Blitz later in the evening.
