Caesura

Caesura

Caesura is a standalone publication, a small initiative aimed at gathering the diverse pieces of art and criticism that strive to break free from the aimlessness of today. We believe in the importance of taking a moment to pause and create space for reflection. Our goal is to showcase visual art, poetry, prose, music, and insightful criticism from artists and writers who understand the challenges we face and the need for fresh perspectives. We do not adhere to specific frameworks or endorse certain styles, techniques, or mediums. Instead, we provide a reflection on history, the stagnation of the current moment, and the letdowns of the past: "a complete awareness of our era while still being deeply committed to it." Our request is simple: we want art to demonstrate its value and purpose.

So far The Unbelievable Truth (1989) and Simple Men (1992) have been the best films in the collection, but Henry Fool (1997) may be my favorite.

“I, um, don’t know — but it’s my birthday?” I give. Because, what the heck else can I say, you know? “Well, congratulations and everything, but we all have one,” she gives back. Then she hangs up on me forever. One of my eyes spasms wildly. I am in a real bad way. Then I call up a man old enough to be my father. “Why don’t you like me?” I ask. “You know what, honestly, I don't even know anymore,” he answers.
