Chanute Tribune

Chanute Tribune

The Chanute Tribune started as a small publication with 4 columns and 4 pages, founded by G.M. Dewey on April 8, 1892, with H.P. Hutton serving as the editor. In 1900, on September 6, Dewey sold the newspaper to J.M. Cavaness, who was later succeeded by his sons, Herbert and Wilfred, three years later. The brothers teamed up with Parks Helmick, and on October 31, 1905, they incorporated the Chanute Daily Blade into their operations. Four years after that, the brothers collaborated with A.R. Blakely and Fred Brinkerhoff to create a stock company called The Tribune Publishing Company, which then took over the Chanute Morning Star.

Seniors Blake Ellis, Brody Gunderman, Kyler Isbell, Cole Mathes, and Logan Page combined to allow a single earned run on three hits with a combined 19 strikeouts.

The Chanute Blue team finished runner- up, while the Chanute Gold squad came in fourth. Chanute’s home tournament, just the second meet of the year for the Blue Comets, came after a less-than-ideal stretch of practice days — or lack thereof.

The Pittsburg Purple Dragons mounted a second half comeback against the Chanute Blue Comets, picking up a 6-2 win in girls soccer action on Monday. Pittsburg controlled match pacing for the first 20 minutes before the Blue Comets found their groove.
