For five years in the 1990s, Marvel released annual swimsuit specials, inspired in part by the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issues that had been in publication since 1964 but also bikini-centric shows of the time like Baywatch.

One of my favorite Image series of the past few years was Assassin Nation, a comic by Kyle Starks and Erica Henderson in which 20 of the world’s best assassins all try to kill each other to take the No. 1 spot on the leaderboard. It gave us one of the best, purest friendships in comics, between a man named Dave and a man named Fuck Tarkington. Exquisite Corpses isn’t Assassin Nation.

Marvel on Friday announced X-Men of Apocalypse, a six-part miniseries (four issues bookended by an Alpha and Omega issues) starting in September, written by Jeph Loeb and drawn by Simone Di Meo. The book will see the X-Men of Earth-295 — including Gambit, Sabretooth, Wild Child, Blink, Morph and Forge — traveling to Earth-616 on a mission to save their homeworld from destruction.

And just like that, three of the OG From the Ashes titles are gone. First X-Force, then NYX and now X-Factor. That puts a lot of mutants back on the table. In additon to the many we haven’t seen since Krakoa blinked into the White Hot Room. That’s also a lot of marquee mutants to play with: Archangel, Colossus, Captain Britain, Askani, Havok, Polaris, Forge, Sage, etc. Where will they go? When will we see them again? The Hellfire Vigil may answer those questions.

I consider myself, when I put my mind and effort into it, a relatively well-dressed man.

Admittedly, the Big Board was not kind to the original volume of Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen’s Robin & Batman. On a list of 552 Batman stories, the retelling of Dick Grayson’s early years as Robin currently sits at 522. Check out Matt and Will’s discussion here. But readers responded more favorably, enough so that DC has greenlit a second volume from the creators, this time retelling the early years of the second Robin, Jason Todd. Jason, obviously, is a very different Robin from Dick.
