Andrew Walker is part of the Northern Group of Motoring Writers and has been providing reviews on cars, vans, and pick-ups since 1991. He has contributed articles to various publications such as Fleet North, MSA Newslink, Health Fleet Management, Local Authority Fleet Manager, several Chamber of Commerce magazines, and numerous lifestyle magazines in the North West. In April 2010, he started Company Car & Van to cater specifically to small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) fleets, which play a crucial role in the UK economy. His all-time favorite vehicle is the classic Citroen DS, and like many automotive journalists, he enjoys the experience of driving both vans and pick-ups.

    When a friend had his BMW X5 stolen twice, he asked me what other large five-seat SUV he should consider, one that wouldn’t attract thieves to his drive. I suggested a Skoda Kodiaq & not because it’s not desirable, it very much is, especially if you need a large family car with loads of space & a massive boot.

    Volkswagen have launched a new SUV, the Tayron pronounced Tie Ron. In effect it replaces the seven-seat Tiguan Allspace in the VW car range & most importantly for the fleet sector, is offered with a plug-in hybrid drivetrain.     In 2024 Chery Automobile entered the UK car sector with two Omoda models, the 5 & electric E5, both of which we drove. Neither is flawless but as a first effort from the Chinese brand, the E5 in particular struck plenty of chords. As one of the largest car makers in the world, Chery sells a lot of models especially in China, where customers want a good looking, well equipped car with European SUV’s a popular choice.

    As someone old enough to remember the Renault 5 Turbo, the new all-electric Renault 5 brings back some great memories from the early 1990’s, when a neighbour ran one in dark blue. It was quick that’s for sure & whilst the new 5 won’t hit the same heights – you’ll have to select the Alpine version the A290 to do that – it’s retro design is still very appealing.
