Guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Dennis Van Crash has been around the local music scene for a long tome. He played with new wave dance bands Verdanzen and The Times in the 80s, with edgy rockers Queue-Up in the 90s (reunion show coming soon), led the house band for Cleveland Public Theatre’s production of Hedwig & the Angry Inch in the early 2000s, which morphed into the glitter/glam rock band Vanity Crash he fronts now.

At Waterloo Arts for the spring benefit for the Waterloo Alley Cat Project!Now going on 15 years old, the WACP, founded by Blue Arrow Records owners Pete and Debbie Gulyas, has saved the lives of hundreds of cats as it neuters strays (estimate: about 400 over the years), finds home for friends ones and cares for feral ones in colonies in its North Collinwood neighborhood.

Sofia’s Kitchen + Bar, which opened in NE Ohio’s foodiest city Lakewood in spring 2025, features an upscale bistro menu and an atmosphere it describes as “casually elegant.” (It also says the setting “invites conversation,” a cue that this place isn’t overly loud.) The menu includes such intriguing starters as roasted nuts, sauteed mussels and deviled eggs, with entrees such as pork prime rib, grilled ribeye or a sesame noodle salad to follow.
