Peter lied to wife Leanne, saying he had to stay overnight in Sunderland "to see a man about a greyhound". But it’s not the first time that Sunderland’s been mentioned on Coronation Street. Sunderland-born actress Melanie Hill played Cathy on Corrie.

From January 2026 Coronation Street will drop one episode per week and will be shown 5 times a week, instead of 6. The new schedule will have 30-minute episodes of Coronation Street at 8.30pm each week night. The new scheduling comes after ITV said its research showed that 30-minute episodes attracted higher audiences in 2024. Coronation Street currently airs for three hour-long episodes a week but from next year will only air 30-minute episodes.

A Coronation Street spokesperson confirmed the news, telling RadioTimes.com: "This is not a shock exit or an early exit. Mick and Lou were brought into the show to cause chaos on the cobbles in the build-up to a major storyline in the summer and they are already making their presence felt.
