Welcome to Court Watch #113. We’ll get to our weekly docket roundup shortly but first, a quick observation. As a general rule, it’s never good when the FBI comes to your house to ask about your TikTok account. We don’t even like it when our friends ask us about our burner TikTok account we use to figure out how to open a door. We are, of course, kidding, we don’t have a TikTok account. As journalists, we have a visceral reaction to anything that makes us pivot to video.

An Arizona man, Rene Ortiz, filed a civil lawsuit in September asking that President Trump be removed from the ballot, citing among others things a belief that the previous two assassination attempts against President Trump were hoaxes. The lawsuit was denied by a judge for failing to pay a filing fee. As part of his appeal to the ruling, Ortiz filed a motion requesting that the judge allow him to attempt to shoot President Trump with a rifle from 300 yards away.

A 29-year-old North Carolina man was arrested at Raleigh-Durham airport while trying to board an international flight on his journey to join ISIS, according to newly unsealed court records. On December 4th, the FBI stopped Alexander White at the airport gate after secretly monitoring the man for months. Court records lay out a relatively fast investigation by the FBI once alerted to his alleged support for ISIS.
