Staff were informed of the situation at a meeting yesterday and 80 creditors, believed to be owed millions, were informed of the situation. Pressures of increased international competition, losses in recent years and falling orders are cited as reasons for the closure.

Outlook encouraging Barratt Redrow said forward sales at the end of March were 10.1% lower at 10,245 homes though it still expects to deliver between 16,800 and 17,200 homes, including around 600 JV home completions, in the full year. In a trading update for the 13-week period from 30 December 2024 to 30 March 2025, David Thomas, chief executive, said the company was “well-placed to deliver housing volumes in line with our full year guidance”.

Travellers heading to Europe over the next fortnight are being urged to check their flight itineraries and stay alert to potential delays, as several countries prepare for air traffic control (ATC) strikes that could disrupt travel plans across the continent. The French rail union Sud Rail has also filed strike notices for multiple dates between April 17 and June 2, which will involve train controllers working for SNCF, the French national rail company.

Fuel price factor Inflation slowed to 2.6% in the year to March, a bigger fall than expectations, and the second month in a row that the rate of price growth has eased. Falling fuel prices were behind the fall from February’s 2.8% rate. However, analysts expect inflation to rise to around 3% over the coming months, and peak at around 3.7% in the autumn as increases in household and business bills are factored into the figures.

Capital blow The United States consulate in Edinburgh is expected to become a victim of Elon Musk’s spending cuts. Leaked documents list it among 17 consulates, mainly in Europe, that are scheduled to close. It would mean the end of an American presence in the Scottish capital since 1798.
