Is it too early to be thinking about the Detroit Red Wings and next season? Not according to the NHL. Barely a week after the Florida Panthers were winning a second straight Stanley Cup at the expense of the Edmonton Oilers, the league is out with the 2025-26 NHL preseason schedule. Detroit’s eight-game preseason slate will feature home-and-home dates with four different teams – the Chicago Blackhawks, Buffalo Sabres, Pittsburgh Penguins and Toronto Maple Leafs.

During his three Stanley Cup wins with the Detroit Red Wings, Sergei Fedorov was a key component in each victory. However, he was never given recognition in any of those springs as winner of the Conn Smythe Trophy. Years later, Hockey Hall of Famer Fedorov is hinting at anti-Russian bias in the selection of Florida Panthers forward Sam Bennett as the MVP of this spring’s Stanley Cup playoff. Fedorov is insisting that Panthers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky was the true NHL playoff MVP.

There was a time when the Detroit Red Wings could’ve grabbed defenseman Noah Dobson for merely the cost of their first-round pick. At the 2018 NHL entry draft, Dobson was still on the board when Detroit was opting to select winger Filip Zadina with the sixth overall pick. Seven years later, a trusted NHL source is suggesting that the Red Wings are looking into the possbilility of acquiring Dobson from the New York Islanders.
