Austin, at night, feels like a city of possibility and endless late night talking. After living in the city for the last few years, it almost feels like an equivalent to a city that never sleeps. Especially when you’re young, and you walk past neighborhoods of cobblestones and high-rise apartments, Austin itself feels like a small town shared between you and thousands of others.

It’s not every day you have a talk with your parents about sex at a young age. It’s the beginning scene of Dirty Towel, where we’re reminded of the birds and the bees and how painfully awkward the discussion of sex is carried throughout our young adult years. It also doesn’t help when you finally go through with that feeling, and the dread you feel when it feels like the entire world knows what you’ve done.

The moment you become a mother is when people say that you walk around this Earth with your heart fully out there, yet really no one talks about the pain a mother goes through while balancing being a mother and a human being.
