The Drug Policy Alliance (DPA) stands as the foremost organization in the U.S. advocating for drug policies that are based on science, empathy, health, and human rights. Our supporters consist of individuals who recognize that the war on drugs is causing more harm than benefit. Together, we push for policies that mitigate the negative effects of drug use and drug prohibition, while also promoting safety and respecting individual autonomy over personal choices. Our mission is to reshape national drug policies to prevent the arrest, imprisonment, disenfranchisement, and harm of millions, especially young people and communities of color who face the brunt of the drug war. Engagement in Drug Policy Reforms DPA plays a crucial role in legislative efforts, aiming to reverse the negative impacts of the drug war, prevent harmful new initiatives, and advocate for practical drug policy changes. Through our initiatives, we have successfully diverted hundreds of thousands from jail to treatment, allowed many sick and dying patients to access their necessary medications without fear of criminalization, and helped states like California save over $2.5 billion by cutting down on wasteful spending related to law enforcement, prosecution, and prison costs.
