Eat Like Bourdain
Hello! I’m Valerie, and just like you, I have a passion for exploring the world through its diverse cuisines. Inspired by the legendary Anthony Bourdain, who was a traveler, adventurous eater, and storyteller, I created this site to encourage others to embark on similar journeys. My goal is to help you follow in Tony's footsteps and to foster connections among people through the joy of food and travel. While I’ve written most of the content here, I've also invited some fellow Bourdain fans and travelers to contribute their insights and experiences. Join me as we explore the world together, honoring Bourdain’s legacy!

I’m a visitor, a traveler, an enthusiast. Travel isn’t always pretty. It isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts. It even breaks your heart. But that’s okay. The journey changes you. It should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, in your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind.

See, as part of building out this site to show everywhere Anthony Bourdain ate, I mapped out all the episodes and corresponding destinations.

From the tropical coast of Kerala to the mountainous northern states that straddle the Himalayas, India is as geographically diverse as it is culturally diverse. There is perhaps no place this is thrown into sharper contrast than in Punjab, the Indian state bordering Pakistan – a border that was drawn artificially by a British lawyer and forever changed the face of the subcontinent and the lives of its peoples.

Covering the southwest corner of the Indian subcontinent, the state of Kerala is famous for its food and spices, as well as being unique in it is probably the only state where non-vegetarian food is readily available. As one might expect, having an opportunity to try meat in a traditionally vegetarian country is something Tony Bourdain was keen to do.

While on a train in Europe, I was once told: “Everyone says Paris is the most beautiful city, but Edinburgh, Budapest, and Prague are all just as beautiful.” These cities all vary a lot, and I’ve been lucky to visit them all – in part inspired by this friendly tip. I agree that Prague is beautiful, with plenty of incredible tourist sights and experiences… but it doesn’t have the greatest reputation as a culinary destination.
