At last week’s city council meeting, the council moved forward on rezoning the area the car wash will be located and granted two items that the owners asked for. When weather permits, the group will construct a 60 foot by 61 foot, two-bay car wash at 111 Mill Street, connected to the existing building owned by De Kam.

    By Jill FennemaThe other major item on the council agenda last week Wednesday was a change order for Phase 1 of the Capital Improvement Plan. Because the city had funds remaining to be used towards that phase, they added one more block and intersection, with that work to be completed by Hulstein Excavating, Inc. (HEI) this summer. The work will take place on 2nd Ave, from Maple to Center Street, including the intersection at Center Street.

    By Jill FennemaSouthwest MN Christian Schools recently chose a general contractor to oversee their proposed building project. After inviting several general contracting companies to submit bids and come visit the school, the SWC board opted to go with Gil Haugan, a Sioux Falls commercial contractor who has worked with Sioux Falls Christian in the past. The school started a $12 Million Capital Campaign titled, “Forward on a Firm Foundation” in November.

    By Jill FennemaThe Pipestone County Historical Society has recently launched its Newspaper Digitization Database in collaboration with Advantage Archive. The first phase of the project is now complete, with newspapers from 1879 to 1915 fully digitized. The archive includes editions of the Edgerton Enterprise, Pipestone County Star, and Jasper Journal. In total, 11 publications have been digitized, though eight of them had shorter publication runs compared to these three primary newspapers.
