Those especially familiar with their donkeys might not need specialized technology to identify them, but for everyone else, there’s an app for that. Or at least, there will be soon. Researchers at the University of Southampton off the southern coast of England are developing an app designed to identify donkeys at the nearby the Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology this week announced that Gaspare LoDuca, chief information officer of Columbia University, will serve as its new CIO beginning in August. “I believe that Gaspare will be an incredible asset to MIT, bringing wide-ranging experience supporting faculty, researchers, staff, and students and a highly collaborative style,” MIT Executive Vice President and Treasurer Glen Shor said in a press release.

In results that should surprise few who’ve been following artificial intelligence news over the last few years, a growing number of students are using AI to cheat in their university coursework, according to a recent investigation by The Guardian. Through a survey looking at the 2023-2024 school year, the publication found that the incidence of cheating with AI was 5.1 students for every 1,000, an increase from 1.6 per 1,000 in the 2022-2023 school year.

Santa Clara University’s School of Engineering this week announced a new interdisciplinary master’s program in artificial intelligence. The program at the California university is designed to provide advanced training for students who want to to “develop, implement, and manage AI systems,” according to a press release. “What sets our program apart are the software and hardware tracks, a deep integration of ethical training, and opportunities for AI practicums with Silicon Valley partners.

A paper published his week by the nonprofit Educause shows that turnover in cybersecurity roles remains low and fewer professionals are planning to leave their departments. The survey found that two-thirds of 141 cybersecurity and privacy professionals working for higher education institutions saw little or no turnover in their departments last year. Only 25% of those surveyed said they were likely to apply to outside positions within the next year, a drop from 56% measured in 2023.
