ENOFYLZ Wine Blog
I proudly call myself a "Wine Drinkin' Fool." My genuine interest in wine blossomed in my late forties, which is a bit later than many enthusiasts. This newfound passion was sparked by my wife and me sharing a love for wine together. We've certainly bought more bottles than we can count, and while we have a lot to discover, my wife leans more towards enjoying the wine rather than diving deep into its complexities. She often tells me, "That's too much information!" whenever I get enthusiastic about learning more. That's why I started this blog – it's a way for me to share my wine thoughts with family and friends while keeping my mind engaged. Exploring wine is both enjoyable and sometimes tricky, but I've come to see it as a lifelong romance with this delightful beverage.

Each week, I love spotlighting a wine that truly stands out—whether for its unique personality, compelling backstory, or the sheer joy it brings in the glass. This week’s pick comes from a new-to-me producer I first discovered just last year: Massican Wines. After being thoroughly impressed with that first taste, I didn’t hesitate to order more. Massican specializes in white wines with a Mediterranean soul—fresh, mineral-driven, and vibrant. Those qualities resonate deeply with my palate.

Each week, I love spotlighting a wine that truly stands out—whether for its unique personality, compelling backstory, or the sheer joy it brings in the glass. This week’s pick is all three: the 2020 Baxter Pinot Noir Run Dog Vineyard, is a pure, vibrant expression of an Anderson Valley Pinot Noir. It’s a bottle that transports you to a place as much as it pleases your palate.

One of the things I love most about wine is its ability to preserve memories—bottled reminders of time and place, waiting to be uncorked. That was certainly the case when I recently rediscovered a bottle of 2018 Boris Lisjak Izbrani Teran, tucked away in our wine stash. We brought it back from a trip to Slovenia a few years ago, where we’d toured one of the country’s most iconic landmarks—Bled Castle, dramatically perched above its glacial lake.

One of the things I love most about wine is its power to unlock memories with a single sip. That’s exactly what happened when I opened the sample bottles of Papapietro Perry’s 2021 Pinot Noirs. Suddenly, I was transported back to our cherished Passport to Dry Creek weekends—an annual tradition shared with friends for many years. Without fail, we always made time for Papapietro Perry.

Each week, I love spotlighting a wine that truly stands out—whether for its unique personality, compelling backstory, or the sheer joy it brings in the glass. This week’s pick is all three: the 2023 Matthiasson Vermentino from the Cressida Vineyard, a vibrant expression of a lesser-known grape that deserves more attention.
