9Newly elected President Karol Nawrocki represents a Poland long detested by its eastern neighbours. For Ukrainians, it is the Poland of Dictator Josef Pilsudski before the war. Even worse, the Communist party in 1947 attempted to ethnically cleanse the newly acquired territories of Eastern Poland of Ukrainians living there for centuries and forcibly resettle them on newly acquired German lands. Being a Ukrainian in Communist Poland was very difficult. There is no way to sugar coat this.

8An American citizen of Russian descent and citizenship – strange since the U.S. Constitution does not provide for dual citizenship except by treaty with individual countries – on whatever grounds but in all likelihood moral ones, opposed the Russian aggression in Ukraine which was totally unprovoked and included the murder of innocent civilians, including kidnapping children. She contributed a symbolic $51 towards humanitarian aid for Ukraine through an American not-for-profit.

5It is the government hub of Cape May County, where the courts and government offices are located. In recent history it is generally acknowledged to be Republican country, and even MAGA. On Saturday, April 5th, 2025 a crowd of close to 1000 people gathered on Route 9 near the corner of Mechanic Street in Cape May Courthouse. They held flags and signs. The flags were American and, perhaps surprisingly, Ukrainian.
