France TV

France Télévisions (pronounced [fʁɑ̃s televizjɔ̃] and stylized as france·tv) serves as the national public television broadcaster in France. This state-owned entity was created by merging the public channels France 2 (previously known as Antenne 2) and France 3 (which was once called France Régions 3). Over time, it also incorporated the independent channels France 5 (originally La Cinquième), France Ô (formerly RFO Sat), and France 4 (previously Festival). The funding for France Télévisions primarily comes from television license fees and commercial advertising. However, a new public broadcasting law is set to gradually eliminate commercial ads on public channels, starting with the evening slots and eventually covering the entire day. France Télévisions actively supports the Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV (HbbTV) initiative, which aims to create a unified European standard for hybrid set-top boxes that facilitate access to both broadcast TV and broadband multimedia applications through one user interface. The organization has adopted HbbTV for its interactive services related to news, sports, and weather, and it has plans to incorporate features for catch-up TV and social media sharing in the future.
