    A fatal motorcycle crash victim has been identified as a 40-year-old Steward man. According to the Winnebago County Coroner's Office, Corey Carter of Steward was pronounced at the scene at 7:21 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at 7030 West Lane Road in Machesney Park. A new release from the coroner's office states Carter was operating a motorcycle westbound on West Lane Road around 6:15 p.m. when he lost control and crashed.

    Rockford Fire Department investigators are working to determine what caused a fatal fire about 6:18 a.m. Monday, May 12, at 3912 Preston St.A 46-year-old woman was killed in the fire that appeared to start in a downstairs bedroom of the house located on the city's far westside, Rockford Fire Division Chief Luis Duran said. It displaced two other residents who had been alerted to the fire by smoke detectors and were able to escape, Duran said.
