    Developers’ collective minds split into two when they decide to include a cat as a protagonist: either a cute game about cute cats or a fallen hero who gets humanity on its way back up. The latter being Stray, the last few years have seen the emergence of cats being quite good companions and role models in video games.     Do you remember when games were a bit harsher when giving that edgy vibe? There is no doubt that some titles back in the ’90s took some doubtful actions on writing or character designs. Action games were at least understandable, such as gritty gameplay or somewhat nice characters. Take a look at Duke Nukem, for example, a muscle-bro trying to save babes from aliens. Now that’s some shtick.

Since the dawn of arcades, shoot ‘em ups became the go-to genre for many developers, from Taito to Konami, every single Japanese developer wanted a stake in this fun and hard-to-master genre. While our focus has shifted towards single-player games with stories, there is still a big follower base to shoot ‘em ups, especially in Japan.

    I am not sure, but racing games have shifted in a manner of realism and competition around 2010. Everything suddenly needed to be more and more realistic and game companies had to push forward online racing to a point where it became more or less the main part of the game- take a look at Gran Turismo 7 for example. With titles like Forza Motorsport, Asetto Corsa, and iRacing, racing games are more serious than ever. But initially, we had the racing games winded down for more casual audiences.
