As part of our dive into hex and counter games, I wrote a two part series on my favorite game system. Part 1 is about why I like these games so much. Part 2 will be on which games to try to jump in and try to see what all the fuss is about. Board games are about people. With rare exception, I don’t enjoy playing games alone. The cardboard, the plastic, the wood…it’s all just stuff without friends sitting around the table with you.

It’s Battlefront’s take on the company level second world war miniature wargame, at 15mm (or 1:100) scale, running on essentially the same core ruleset as their Team Yankee game (and ‘Nam, and Great War, and Fate of a Nation). It’s the most popular WW2 miniatures game and sometimes, that’s all it takes. ‘Actually getting games in’ aside, the easiest way to understand Flames of War is that it’s the game of the movie of WW2.
