Berlin (GTAI) - Swedish energy company Vattenfall has announced an ambitious investment plan, pledging to invest more than EUR five billion by 2028 into renewable energy, e-mobility, and other sustainable solutions in Germany. "Germany is the fastest-growing market for renewable energy in Europe," said Vattenfall's CFO for Germany, Robert Zurawski. "Energy demand is expected to increase by 40 percent by 2030 and could even double by 2045.

Berlin (GTAI) - At the inauguration ceremony, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz highlighted that Germany has invested more than EUR 2 billion in quantum computing. “There is a great deal of capacity and willingness to use these facilities for research,” Scholz said. “We have the skills, thanks to our robust education system.”The new Quantum System 2, based on three 133-qubit tunable-coupler Heron processors, provides a modular utility-scale quantum computer, IBM stated.

This significant rise is especially notable as robot installations declined in the world's four leading countries for robotics: China, Japan, the United States, and the Republic of Korea. With 269,427 installed units, Germany remains the largest user of robotics in Europe and the fifth-largest globally.

Berlin (GTAI) - The symbolic ground-breaking ceremony in the eastern German city coincided with the European Commission’s approval of €5 billion in state subsidies for the chipmaker, providing a boost to the initiative. "The European Commission has approved, under EU State aid rules, a €5 billion German measure to support European Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (ESMC) in the construction and operation of a microchip manufacturing plant in Dresden," the Commission announced.

Berlin (GTAI) - Environmental protection is big business in Europe’s largest economy. And it’s growing bigger by the year, as the government figures show. The largest share of the nearly 108 billion euros of turnover in the sector came in climate protection, which generated 61.7 billion euros in business. Measures to improve energy efficiency and reduce energy use accounted for 30.7 billion euros, while renewable energy measures were responsible for 28.9 billion euros.

Culture and Sports Germany’s professional football league recorded 22 percent growth in last season according to a new study by business consultants Deloitte. The German Bundesliga had a best-ever turnover of EUR 3.8 billion in the 2022-23 season, the report found. That made the league the second largest in the world after the English Premier League (EUR 7 billion) but ahead of Spain’s La Liga, Italy’s Serie A and France’s Ligue 1. The figures do not include transfer fees.

Berlin (GTAI) - The OECD study “Artificial Intelligence Review of Germany” praised Europe’s largest economy for showing “vision” and “leadership” in becoming one of the first countries to adopt a national AI strategy back in 2018. “Initiatives implemented as part of the national AI strategy laid the foundation for Germany to emerge as a global leader in AI research,” the report stated.

Berlin (GTAI) - All told, some 1.27 million purely electric (BEV) and hybrid (PHEV) vehicles were made in Germany in 2023, the second highest number in the world behind China. China dominates global EV production, but the vast majority of its cars are sold domestically. By contrast 76 percent of German EVs are sold abroad. The US is the world’s third largest maker of EVs. Germany leads Europe with more electric vehicles produced than second-placed Spain (256,000) and France (225,000) put together.
