For Nick Falkenberg, SM ’25, public health is a meaningful way to blend his analytical background with his desire to advance population health. “I studied statistics and economics in undergrad,” he said. “But I wanted to blend that with health because I thought that was an interesting way to contribute to the well-being of society in this modern world.”As a student of the Master of Science program in Epidemiology, Falkenberg applied these skills to a range of pressing public health issues.

Home / News / Yunge Xiao, SM ’25, gained confidence as a researcher at Harvard Chan School As the youngest sister in a “household of very empowered women,” Yunge Xiao was accustomed to being the youngest person in the room. She began her SM program in epidemiology at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health at age 20, young enough that she realized one of her classmates was old enough to have been her pediatrician when she was a child. At first, Xiao felt like an imposter.

Home / News / Katie Crum, SM ’25, combines interest in data and public health to improve design of drug trials Katie Crum was working as a research assistant at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston when she decided to pursue a master’s degree from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. This month, she will graduate with an SM in epidemiology. “I really liked that the Chan program had a very rigorous focus on study design,” Crum says of the two-year SM-80 program.
