Hitchin's Triangle Community Garden all set to celebrate its 25th Birthday

North Herts District Council have approved an application from The Triangle Community Garden to host a 25th Birthday Celebration event at Ransom's Recreation Ground, Hitchin on the 16th May between 19.00 hrs and 21.00 hrs. The Triangle Garden is a community garden within a local park where people of all ages and abilities can come together and take part in creative land-based activities, such as growing food, tending plants, creating wildlife habitats and making permanent garden features.

55 "incidents" were reported between the 1st of March and the 1st of April in Hitchin by Hertfordshire CCTV. The stats (see below) demonstrate how "anti-social behaviour" issues are the dominant incident in the reporting period. Rarer incidents include a single suicide and race related hate crime in the Town.

Bluebells are in bloom at Hitch Wood and other local forests near Hitchin. Hertfordshire Natural History Society promote the study and recording of the flora and fauna in Hertfordshire and encourage a wider interest in natural history including the conservation of wildlife, habitats and geological features. They've helpfully reminded bluebells visitors that the waymarked Bluebell Walk at Hitch Wood starts at the car park on the B651 south of Hichin [TL198239].

Police appeal for help finding a wanted man with links to Hitchin

Police are appealing to the public for their help in locating a wanted man. Robert Burrows, aged 34, of Trigg Terrace in Stevenage, is wanted in connection with ABH and theft of a motor vehicle. Burrows has links to Hitchin and Jaywick in Essex. Anyone who sees Burrows, or has any information about his whereabouts, is asked to report information by calling the non-emergency number 101, quoting crime reference 41/31673/25.
Crowdfunder to replace Hitchin’s damaged Pride bench smashes its target

A crowdfunder aimed at reaching £650 to replace the damaged bench had reached £1,300 less than 48-hours after is launch. North Herts Pride, who organised the funding campaign, described the effort as a not a "replacement" but rather a "statement" that the community are proud, visible and "we're not going anywhere". Damage to the bench has made national news but it remains unclear why the bench was partially set in fire and by whom.

As a result, a countywide operation, led by the Rural Operational Support Team, (ROST) took place last week, to ensure that those carrying waste were doing so legally.

Appeal for witnesses after North Herts Pride bench in Hitchin set alight

Police have launched an investigation and are appealing for witnesses and information following an arson in Hitchin. Between 5pm on 14 April and 9am of 15 April on Windmill Hill, the North Herts Pride LGBTQ+ bench has been set on fire. PC Lewis Thomson, who is the North Herts Hate Crime Officer said: "We are continuing to establish the full circumstances of this incident and are appealing for any information.
