CALEXICO — That the city has a $900,000 general fund surplus after the first quarter of the fiscal year took a backseat to a lengthy and sometimes tense discussion between staff, council and members of the public over pouring funding into the Calexico International Airport. IMPERIAL — In a major milestone for local healthcare education, Imperial Valley College announced that the California Board of Registered Nursing has unanimously approved the college’s request to expand its Registered Nurse program enrollment from 80 to 150 students per year during the Nov. 20 BRN meeting. The approval is the result of three years of preparation by IVC’s nursing program, which aims to admit more eligible students and address the growing need for healthcare workers in the region.

PALM DESERT — Republican candidate for the 36th Assembly District, Jeff Gonzalez, declared victory in the Nov. 5 Presidential Election over his Democratic rival Joey Acuña Jr. during a press conference in the Coachella Valley on Monday, Nov. 18. “I am honored that the voters have elected me to serve Assembly District 36 and believe in our mission of bipartisanship, lowering the cost of living, and turning the direction of our state around,” Gonzalez said in a press release.
