Morning all. Our plucky, proud and patriotic paid subscribers got together for our most weeks gathering last night, and I share a recording and transcript of it all above. It was a lively crowd and we had lots of questions. Hope you can get to it when you can. It’s a pretty comprehensive overview of our current moment.

Morning all. I’m joining journalist Adam Klasfeld at 11am ET on a Substack Live for anyone who wants a little live morning Hopium. Click on this link at 11am to join the conversation. Here’s what I’ll be taking about this morning….. Our protests this weekend were dignified, joyous, enormous, peaceful. An affirmation of our great American democratic tradition. They were, and remain this morning, a searing counterpoint to the extraordinary chaos and repeated failure we continue to see from Trump.

Afternoon all. Sharing a new conversation I had this afternoon with Mexican-American journalist and commentator Leon Krauze. Leon just spent a week among the protestors and the people of Los Angeles, and came by to share his first hand account of what he saw. He put some of his observations into a new essay that ran in today’s Washington Post, The Real Siege Of Los Angeles. It has been a long week and I know many of you are getting ready for the big No Kings protests this weekend.

Friends, what a day. Got three initial takeaways for you: Musk is doing a lot of damage to Trump at a time when he was already weakened and struggling. All of this makes Trump less “strong” and his regime even more of a farce and clown show. We should welcome Musk’s help in killing/undermining Trump’s terrible budget bill. It is a bad bill, and it will be good for the country if it fails.

Afternoon all. Got a good one for you today. Sending along an interview I just completed with an old and dear friend, Rep. Haley Stevens of Michigan. She gives us an important update from the front lines of the reconciliation battle in the House, and as a newly announced candidate in one of the most important Senate races in the country. A recording and transcript are above.
