State Unemployment Slightly Below National Average

The unemployment rate in the State of Indiana in March was recorded at 4.1%, according to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. By comparison, the national unemployment rate reported for March was 4.2%. In addition, Indiana’s labor force participation rate is 63.7% compared to the national rate of 62.5%. This rate is the percentage of Hoosiers 16 and older who are either working or actively looking for work.

Indiana lawmakers got some bad news Wednesday afternoon, the state is facing a $2.4 billion shortfall. And to close that gap, lawmakers say everything is on the table, from tax increases to spending cuts, even legalizing marijuana. During the April revenue forecast, lawmakers were told that due to the economic slowdown, a near zero revenue growth and tariffs, they could expect to bring in $2.4 billion less in revenue.
