Across the country, local TV meteorologists this week feared they could lose their jobs if a large broadcaster outsources its local weather forecasting to a “hub” based in Atlanta. “The layoffs at roughly two dozen local television stations stretching from Massachusetts to Hawaii will impact at least 50 meteorologists,” CNN’s Liam Reilly reported this week, citing a person familiar with the matter. The news exploded across the broadcasting industry.

Public broadcasters in Colorado are on alert. Last week, Brendan Carr, Trump’s choice to lead the Federal Communications Commission, ordered an investigation into NPR and PBS. Any ramifications could trickle down to the state level. Carr last week told members of Congress that he was concerned the large public broadcasters might be running “prohibited commercial advertisements.” Then he dropped the hammer.

Colorado Public Radio, Aspen Public Radio, and KSUT tribal radio in the Four Corners region, along with NPR, have sued the Trump White House over the Republican president’s executive order that aims to cut funding for NPR and PBS.
