FIGO has endorsed the World Health Organization’s labour care guide (LCG) as the preferred global standard for monitoring labour, calling for healthcare providers worldwide to adopt it to improve maternal and newborn outcomes. Launched by WHO in 2020, the LCG replaces the long-standing partograph and reflects updated evidence-based practices for intrapartum care.

The FIGO Committee on Contraception have released a global position statement urging the integration of postpartum intrauterine device (PPIUD) services into standard maternity care. The initiative seeks to address the unmet need for contraception, which affects over 218 million women worldwide, especially in low- and middle-income countries. Short birth intervals are strongly associated with increased maternal and infant mortality, preterm births and poor child health outcomes.
