The Institute of Public Affairs (IPA) is a think tank focused on public policy, located in Melbourne, Australia. It promotes free market economic ideas, including the privatization of government-owned businesses, reducing regulations, and supporting free trade. The IPA is known for its skeptical view on climate change, its call to eliminate the minimum wage, and its push to change certain aspects of the Racial Discrimination Act of 1975.

On 30 June 2024, the number of student visa holders living in Australia was 608,262. This was higher than in any other year on record, surpassing the previous record of 568,753 in 2023 by approximately 7 per cent. Australia’s estimated resident population had only increased by 2 per cent over the same period from 26.65 million to 27.20 million.
