The Jackson Free Press, commonly known as "JFP," is an alternative weekly publication based in Jackson, Mississippi. Founded in 2002 by local resident Donna Ladd, technology specialist Todd Stauffer, and a group of young community members, the paper aims to provide a progressive perspective within the state. Currently, it is the only publication from Mississippi that is part of the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies (AAN). Each week, JFP circulates around 17,000 free copies across more than 425 locations in the Jackson metropolitan area. The newspaper is well-known for its annual Best of Jackson awards, which are based on reader nominations, as well as its online blogs focused on politics. Additionally, JFP hosts various local events, including the Fondren ArtMix, JubileeJam, the Chick Ball, the "Race, Religion & Society Series," and the Crossroads Film Festival.
