Greetings, Jagged Time Lapsers!By the time you (hopefully) read this, I will have officially turned 59. It’s a prime number, and in most ways — except for the fact that my Pete Townshend stage leap days are completely behind me — I do feel like I actually am in my prime, even though I vividly remember turning 27 what seems like just a few years agoIf I’ve learned anything in that time, it’s that love, kindness, joy and creativity are the things that really make life worthwhile.

I have friends who believe whole-heartedly in astrology, and I have friends who are convinced that it’s absolute bunk. I have always tended to lean towards the former camp, all the more so since learning the uncanny fact that Rip Taylor and Charles Nelson Reilly were both born on January 13, 1931.

I was accompanied by my mom, who handed the proprietor eighty bucks in exchange for the little red and black electric six-string hanging from the wall behind the counter.

Man, the hits just keep on coming. It was bad enough waking to yesterday’s horrific tariff-induced market chaos, but last week’s “Liberation Day” insanity at least had me somewhat braced for continued (if utterly unnecessary) reverberations from the Demander-in-Chief’s kamikaze trade war. But what I was not at all prepared for was the gut-punch of Blondie drummer Clem Burke dying at the way-too-young age of 70.

Happy Saturday, Jagged Time Lapsers!The baseball season has started, and while this in itself is sadly no longer a source of joy for me — and the news of Opening Day’s MLB.TV outage and the league’s spineless decision to scrub the word “diversity” from its website because it makes white supremacists mad aren’t exactly rekindling the embers of my once-ardent fandom — I still love watching 1976’s The Bad News Bears at this time every year.
