JULIEDEVIVRE.COM BY JULIE B. ROSE
Hello there! I’m Julie, and I've been living as a full-time traveler for the past 2 and a half years! In 2020, I decided to sell my house and embark on a journey with my furry companion, Penny, a 6-year-old miniature Australian shepherd. We set out to explore new adventures and start anew. Our travels have taken us across the United States, where we discovered picturesque small towns, breathtaking natural landscapes, and even completed my goal of visiting all 50 states. At the close of 2021, I made the decision to leave my remote job to embrace semi-retirement and take a sabbatical, allowing me the freedom to travel without the limitations of a full-time job. Over the last few years, we've explored North America by car, including the USA, Canada, and Mexico, and I've also traveled to Europe by plane. It’s been quite a journey (and if you’re just joining me, you'll find I share everything!).

Being lied to, deceived, betrayed, and cheated on has become a universal experience for many women (and men) — myself included, more than once. As I’ve matured, I’ve sharpened my intuition and learned how to trust it. I’ve built up my self-esteem and become far less reliant on a man — or a relationship — to bring me happiness. I’ve suffered heartbreaks and rejections, but I didn’t let them jade me. I was my authentic self, instead a version of myself I hoped would impress him.

When I stepped away from full-time employment on December 10, 2021, I had no idea how it would change me — not just in the obvious ways, like having more freedom in my schedule or reducing work-related stress, but in deeper, more transformative ways. Years of living as a global nomad, not working at all or working flexibly, has reshaped how I view work, money, success, status, and most importantly, my sense of purpose and self-worth.

Earlier this year, at age 38, I finally visited my 7th continent: Africa. It was a trip 30 years in the making, ever since the Lion King and all its charming characters and landscapes stole my heart. A safari in Africa had long been on my list, but as a semi-retired nomad, I thought it would be too expensive and unattainable.

Since going nomadic, as I’ve traveled the world, I’ve gone on more first dates than I can count. I went through phases of having the energy to “get out there”… and then later, frustrated, I would swear off the apps forever. I had high hopes for a couple of my short-lived relationships — like the Welshman in Hungary, the Greek man in Croatia, and the Spaniard in Mexico — but they didn’t pan out, for one reason or another.
