    The first MPs expenses, for the new parliament, have been published. They cover the period from July to November 2024. Newbury’s MP, Lee Dillon claimed a total of £36,043.23 in expenses for the period, which includes funds to rent a second home in London. This compares to these neighbouring MPs who also claim a second home in London to enable them to do their jobs: Kit Malthouse, MP for North West Hampshire claimed £39,590.46 and Danny Kruger, MP for East Wiltshire claimed £47,491.44.

    35 Views elections,  thatcham,  West Berkshire Two Lib Dems have been voted in after elections in Thatcham yesterday (Thursday). The council ward seat on West Berkshire Council, vacated by MP Lee Dillon in Thatcham North East, was won by Tom McCann. Mark Thomas won the Thatcham Town Council seat, after results were declared around midnight. “A strong pair of wins for us. Our vote has held up well and we fought a good campaign,” said West Berkshire Council’s Lib Dem leader Jeff Brooks.

Two new solar-powered duck feeders have come to Newbury. The machines are located by the canalside in Victoria Park and at Lock Island.

    Our photo above shows the first of several dozen tractors making their way down Newbury’s main street on Saturday just after 6 pm, surprising early evening pedestrians. The remarkable display, including bright lights and tuneful loud horns, capped a day of protest by local farmers. Throughout Saturday, over 120 tractors were amassed in the showground of Newbury racecourse.

    The new Kennet Centre redevelopment plans have gone in. These plans are for the ‘Old Town’ version – the one with individual mews houses. The opening paragraph of the design statement says they are to “enhance the Newbury Conservation Area by restoring the look, feel and character of – this part of – Newbury”.
